The Family Bakery

We’re spending the week visiting family we haven’t seen in far too long.  Most of my mom’s side of the family is centered around Bellingham, Washington.  This afternoon my grandmother took Maggie and I on a short walk to the building that used to house her grandfather’s bakery.

With my grandmother in front of my great-great grandfather's bakery.

The building long ago passed from the family’s hands and now holds a few apartment units.  I imagine my first-generation immigrant ancestor (German by way of Russia) grumbling about his old building’s poor repair.  Regardless, it was a gift to be introduced to a small piece of our family story.
