godtube gets $30 million
The blog has been quiet this week, mostly because I’ve been knee-deep in packing and cleaning preparing for our Saturday move into Chicago. And while I should probably be doing something moving related, I couldn’t ignore this headline: Hoping For Ungodly Returns, Christian Video Sharing Site GodTube Gets $30 Million Funding.
$30 million. That’s a lot of money. To me, anyway.
Is it a good investment? A good use of money? Do we need a Christian version of YouTube?
In (un)related news, deaths in Myanmar from the recent cyclone may reach 100,000. The U.S. has pledged $3.2 million for relief efforts, about 10% of GodTube’s new-found funding.

Man, I was so happy when my ministry received like a grand…
I wouldn’t know what to DO with $30 million, especially if you’re GodTube???
More bandwidth? Do they need that? Advertising? (Really?)
I don’t know… I can’t imagine that being used fruitfully. And I don’t mean to knock GodTube… I think it’s got a place in the ether like any other website, but yeah… that’s a lot of money with I dunno written all over it.
I mean, yes, if it’s used to sustain the site for the next 20 years? Awesome. But other than that? Honestly… what could it possibly be used for?

Larry, Larry, Larry…
$30 million is not a lot of money these days. The current (and potential) bandwidth they are using is not cheap. Plus, they have to pay their employees a moderate salary based on a national pay grade scale and on top of all that they are going to need to make sure the Operating Officers receive a nice bonus and can afford to drive certain types of cars and have a healthy retirement fund, and…ad nauseam - more like add nausea.

Thom!!! We still gotta hang out, man…
(I think us getting lunch or something will bring on the apocalypse, because it seems that there’s some appointed time that we are fighting or something.
