It’s not a new video, but I recently rediscovered this gem from The Mountain Goats for their song, Woke Up New.

As mentioned, we typically lean away from “promotional” or “performance” music videos due to… well, lack of interest in watching artists attempt to lip-sync. That said, rumors around this video claim only 2 cuts are made within in… if so, an impressive performance by both John Darnielle and Rian Johnson (director).

Wow… just wow. I’m not even enjoying the song all THAT much, but it’s okay…
But that video is mind-blowing in it’s simple-complexity. (Does that make sense?) Like, I could follow all the “different sets” in my mind, but as a director, and videographer, I couldn’t imagine the foresight and planning required to make that video a reality. Not to mention the split-second, immensely precise editing to make it believable. Just awesome.
